CKLA-    Our district has adopted a reading/writing program it is called Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) which is a comprehensive, preschool through fifth grade program for teaching reading, writing, listening, and speaking while also building students’ vocabulary and knowledge across essential domains in literature, global and American history, and the sciences.  This program does not start spelling for a while so please be patient.  So far, I am amazed what they have already learned.  Ask your child to have them tell you the story of The Boy Who Cried Wolf, The Maid and the Milk Pail, the Goose Who Laid the Golden Egg and the Dog and the Manger.  If you have and questions please let me know.

Homework-  I will start sending home packets every Monday starting Monday, August 27^th.  It will consist of writing, reading, and math.  It does not need to be returned until Friday.

Home Reading-  We will be getting books in a bag next week sometime.  Please read to and with your child each night for 20 minutes five times a week.  This will help them recognize letters, sounds, and words while he/she is learning and expanding their reading skills.  I will be sending home the reading calendar for September next Friday.  Please keep it in a safe place !!  Have your child bring it back after September 30^th for a prize.  Please add up the total minutes.

Consequences

1.  Green card.  Everyone starts out with a green  

     great day card.

2.  Yellow card.  Warning!

3.  orange card.  Lose five minutes taken from recess.

4.  Red card.  Lose recess and note from home.
