Homework-  Thanks for sending back the homework.  If you happen to forget, just have your child bring it back as soon as possible.  The next homework will be given on Tuesday because we have no school on Monday!
Home Reading-  Please read to and with your child each night for 20 minutes  five times a week.  This will help them recognize letters, sounds, and words while he/she is learning and expanding their reading skills.   I am sending home a September reading calendar today.  A good place to keep it safe is in the plastic bag with your book in a bag in it.  Have your child bring it back after September 30th for a prize.  Please add up the total minutes.
Birthdays-  If you would like to bring a treat to celebrate your child’s birthday that would be great!  Please remember it needs to be something packaged.  Have your child bring it to class and I will keep it until break at 10:40 a.m. or you can bring it in at about 10:40 a.m. We will do half birthdays for those who have birthdays in the summer.  We have 27 students in our class.  I will remind you in our newsletter each week of upcoming birthdays.    We will be celebrating Shad’s birthday on Tuesday, September 4th .   His real birthday is September 3rd.  Send invitations for parties only if everyone in the class is invited.  We don’t want anyone to feel left out.
Book Orders-  I will be sending book orders home about once a month.  Please do not feel obligated to buy from these orders.  Make checks payable to Scholastic.  Book orders usually take two weeks from date of submission.  They are due next Friday, September 7th .    If you place your order online the class gets a free book and sometimes they give customers free book coupons too.  My code is J2NC3

CKLA-    Our district has adopted a reading/writing program it is called Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) which is a comprehensive, preschool through fifth grade program for teaching reading, writing, listening, and speaking while also building students’ vocabulary and knowledge across essential domains in literature, global and American history, and the sciences.  This program does not start spelling for a while so please be patient.  So far, I am amazed what they have already learned.  Ask your child to have them tell you the story of The Boy Who Cried Wolf, The Maid and the Milk Pail, the Goose Who Laid the Golden Egg and the Dog and the Manger.  If you have and questions please let me know.
Homework-  I will start sending home packets every Monday starting Monday, August 27th.  It will consist of writing, reading, and math.  It does not need to be returned until Friday.
Home Reading-  We will be getting books in a bag next week sometime.  Please read to and with your child each night for 20 minutes five times a week.  This will help them recognize letters, sounds, and words while he/she is learning and expanding their reading skills.  I will be sending home the reading calendar for September next Friday.  Please keep it in a safe place !!  Have your child bring it back after September 30th for a prize.  Please add up the total minutes.
