May 1st - May 5th

We have finished our math book!!!  Now we are learning some math that will help the students get ready for 2nd grade.  Tomorrow is the Kite Flight at the CMS fields.  Free games and prizesJ

Dates to Remember-
April 29th  - Kite Flight at CMS field 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
May 11th – First grade field trip to State Bank and Ladybug Nursery.
May 19th -  Awards assembly 10:00 – 11:00 most awards are for the older students.  If I know of any students getting an award from our class I will let parents know.
May 22nd – Field Day
May 234th – Dance Festival/Last day of school

CKLA-  We are finished with all of the units in learning and listening.  These first graders have learned so many new stories, science concepts, and history facts this year!!
Homework-  I am not sending home anymore homework.  We have worked so hard this year.  I really appreciate all of the parent support, especially with homework.  May gets super crazy!!  So no more homework!!! J
Home Reading-  Please read to and with your child each night for 20 minutes  five times a week.  This will help them recognize letters, sounds, and words while he/she is learning and expanding their reading skills.   Our goal is to have every child in this class reading 47 wpm by May.

April 3rd - April 7th

The March reading calendar is now due, just bring it back anytime next week for your free pizza coupon!!  I am sending home the April reading calendar today.  Please keep on reading 20 minutes/5 days a week.  We will be taking the DIBELS test the second week in May.  They need to be reading 47 wpm.  Please work with your child on their fluency.  Thank you J

March 20th - March 24th


We just started chapter 11 in math.  They will be learning about three- dimensional shapes.  Thank you for working so diligently with your child on spelling and reading.  Our class is doing AWESOME!!! We will be taking the DIBELS test in May and your child needs to be reading 47 wpm.  The Leavitt Group is sponsoring our class.  They will match the money donated from our class!! J

February 27th - March 3rd

We have been working so hard on learning rules about when to add a –s or an –es to make words plural.  We have also learned that the letter g makes a /j/ sound when there is a ge or gi in a word, with some exceptions such as girl, giggle, geese, give, gift, and get.  We are starting a new math chapter on representing data.  We will be doing various graphs to show information. Keep on reading and practicing those spelling wordsJ

CKLA-  We just finished up the Grimm Brothers fairy tales.  We read Sleeping Beauty, Rumpelstiltskin, Rapunzel, The Princess and the Pea, The Frog Prince, Hansel and Gretel, and Jack and the Beanstalk.  Our next domain will be A New Nation: American Independence.  We will be learning about George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Paul Revere, and the Revolutionary war.

February 13th - February 17th

I have a Dr. Seuss reading contest form that is going home today.  Mrs. Patty Johnson's 6th grade will come to our school on March 2nd to perform a Dr. Seuss play for our Dr. Seuss Celebration and then will announce the winner.  The directions are on the form.

*Valentine’s-  We will have our party on Tuesday, February 14th .  We will be making a folder/bag to put our Valentine’s in during class next week.  It is not mandatory, but if your child would like to bring Valentine’s for the whole class, that would be greatJ  We have 20 students in our class.  Just have your child write who it is from.   If they write specific names on their Valentine’s it takes a really long time to pass them out into the folders/bag.

February 6th - February 10th

 It was great to meet with each of you this past week.  Each child in this class is doing great thingsJ   We took our chapter 8 test in math on Friday and we will start chapter 9 on Monday.  This chapter we will be comparing lengths, measuring, and telling time to the hour and half hour.  I am also sending home the Kite flight reading log paper.  Keep it safe until April.  We get money as a school just from you filling it out and taking it up to the Kite Flight Event.  It is a fun, free, and family, friendly opportunity on April 29th from 10:00- 3:00 at the Cedar Middle School lawn area.  Lots of free candy and activities!!  I take my kids every year and they love it!!

January 30th - February 3rd

SEP next week, therefore school gets out everyday at 2:30, including Wednesday. Book fair in the library from 2:30-5:00.  We are in chapter 8 in math and we are adding double digit numbers.
